Experience
I am a chartered educational psychologist, and Director of Dyslexia North, an independent psychological assessment and consultancy business. I have worked with children and adults for over thirty five years, a significant part of which has been the preparation of formal reports for decision making by fund holders across public and private sectors within the North East of England, and also at a national and international level.
I have been an Honorary Associate Tutor at Newcastle University, and a British Psychological Society Advisor/Inspector on Educational Psychologists’ post-graduate professional training.
I have considerable experience at a national level of monitoring/inspection of formal psychological assessment reports done by consultant psychologists working on behalf of Dyslexia Action.
I have provided assessments for court on children who have been the subject of child protection proceedings because of abuse or neglect, children with special educational needs, and have advised on how their needs can be met. I have provided psychological advice in personal injury cases and in cases being brought to tribunal under disability discrimination legislation.
I am able to provide full psychological assessment of children of all ages, produce clear and concise reports, and present my evidence at hearings in a convincing, coherent and well-argued manner.
I am trained and experienced in a variety of up-to-date assessment techniques to elicit relevant information about children’s cognitive, behavioural, social and emotional functioning, and have developed a personal style and professional approaches and procedures to use with children that make the assessment process enjoyable for them and helpful for the court.
I have had extensive experience of working with adults as parents, employees, trainees/students, evaluating their abilities, their strengths and weakness, and offering advice, work place consultations and training as required’.
